BARB Search & Rescue

BARB received a page requesting assistance to a report of a young male who had become stuck in mud near a local yacht club. Several other rescue services were also paged to attend including a neighbouring community rescue team and the fire service. BARB crew were instructed to prepare one craft and remain at station while further details were gathered. The crew commander made their way to the scene. The casualty was successfully rescued by a neighbouring rescue team using a throwline and brought to safety. No further action was required by BARB.

BARB received a request from police to conduct an immediate search of the local shoreline and dunes for a high risk missing person. Coastguard were also being contacted simultaneously. A crew page was put out and preparations for launch began. A further page was received approximately 14 minutes later requesting the launch of two craft. As the crew were preparing the vessel for launch, it was clarified by another rescue team that BARB had been paged for an on-foot search rather than a water launch. BARB received a call requesting boat assistance after a seagull was reported to be trapped in fishing line at a local park. Crew deployment was being arranged when it was reported that a member of the public had entered the water and successfully freed the bird. No BARB deployment was required.

BARB volunteers were requested to assist at a local business following concerns for a customer who had sustained a minor head injury from a fall earlier that morning. Staff on scene had called an ambulance due to the customer experiencing dizziness, and BARB were also requested to attend in support. Three BARB crew members responded to the scene where basic care checks were carried out. The situation was assessed and no further action was required by BARB.
