The first call-out of the year for BARB’s volunteers. An unlucky walker was caught out by a mud bar that runs along the beach by the Burnham Lower Lighthouse where she had lost her footing and become stuck.
Her husband raised the alarm and the Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Milford Haven tasked Burnham Coastguards and the BARB team to help her.
Two of the Coastguard mud rescue technicians used stretchers as a working platform to free her, and she was then walked to BARB’s Spirit Of Lelaina II hovercraft whose crew flew her back up the beach to safety and a relieved husband.
The lady was unlucky to lose her footing in a patch of mud. We were happy to help her alongside the Burnham and Weston Coastguard teams for a quick, successful outcome.
Her husband did the right thing in calling 999 and asking for the Coastguard when she got into difficulty.
