An early wake-up call for BARB’s volunteers today at 3.36am when we were tasked by Coastguards with searching for a missing person on Brean beach.
The person was reported to be in difficulty in the mud and, as such, our hovercraft teams were tasked immediately to scene and in case they had managed to enter the water RNLI Lifeboats were also tasked by HM Coastguard control.
We assisted Burnham Coastguards and Avon & Somerset Constabulary in the search before the Police confirmed the missing person had been found safely.
As a safety precaution we were requested to remain on scene with our hovercraft ready and running In case the situation changed and further assistance was required.
Once all teams and the casualty were off the beach, we returned to station.
This was a good, multi-agency incident with a positive outcome. BARB’s volunteers are on call 24/7 to help Coastguards and Police when needed.
