#23 – TWO PEOPLE IN MUD – 09/08/2020

Our volunteers were called out by Coastguards at 2.30pm to assist in the rescue of two people stuck in mud at Brean.

The two young ladies had been trying stand-up paddle boarding for the first time and unfortunately had got into difficulty in the mud on the falling tide. They had tried to get back to shore but the mud proved to be too sticky to make any progress.

A 999 call was made to the Coastguards by a member of the public, and our hovercraft crews were tasked alongside Burnham Coastguard to the stranded paddlers, the RNLI Lifeboat returning from training was also tasked.

The BARB team worked alongside the Burnham Coastguards and the lifeboat crew to carry out a safe casualty transfer from boat to hovercraft and then fly them back to a very worried, tearful and relieved mum who was very emotional watching on.

This was another great multi-agency incident, working together with a very positive outcome.
