#51 & #52 – SEARCH FOR VULNERABLE MISSING PERSON – 30/10/2019

Our volunteers had an early morning call-out today after Coastguards requested our assistance at 1.57am to assist in the search for a vulnerable missing person in Burnham.
Our crews searched the seafront and beach in the darkness on foot and using our rescue hovercraft.
Working closely with our colleagues from Burnham Coastguard, the Police and the lifeboats, a thorough search was conducted until we were stood down at 4.45am.
We were then called out for a second time at 12.48pm by Coastguards to perform a further search of the coastline and Stert Island.
As the BARB hovercraft made its way around the back of the Island, the Police helicopter was conducting an air search above the island when a person was spotted by the teams. The Coastguard Mud rescue Technician approached the person and immediately managed to confirm it was the person we had been searching for.
After a brief assessment it was established he was suffering from the onset of hypothermia so he was made as warm as possible and the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 187 was tasked to fly him back to the beach at Burnham where he was taken away by the ambulance crews.
This was a superb multi-agency operation. Our thanks go to our dedicated volunteers for a excellent response as usual.
